About Aqiqah Guide

Aqiqah Guide is part of the Muslims Around the World network, a family of Islamic websites. Each one does one job and tries to do it well.

Why we made Aqiqah Guide

One kind page for busy new parents. We wanted a clear guide that answers the questions families ask about aqiqah, works out the date for them and keeps a checklist, with every step tied to its source and the schools’ views set out fairly where they differ.

If you are arranging one, give your aqiqah openly and see it carried out.

A note on the calculator

Day one is the day of birth. The calculator counts as most scholars do, and shows Hijri dates from your browser’s calendar. If your family counts differently, or your local Islamic date differs by a day, go by that.

Where everything comes from

The guidance
Written by Muslims Around the World from the hadith named in each paragraph, by collection and number, and only numbers we can confirm in the source data behind muslimsaroundtheworld.org. Where the schools of law differ (on the ruling, the 14th and 21st days, aqiqah for an adult), we give each view rather than our own.
The calculator
Works in your browser. The Hijri dates use your browser’s Umm al-Qura calendar, which can differ by a day from the date announced where you live.

Who runs it

Aqiqah Guide is made by Muslims Around the World. It is free, has no third-party adverts and needs no account. Every site in the family is listed on the Muslims Around the World sites page. Before any page here is published, an automatic review checks every verse and dua against its source letter for letter, and makes sure each statement about what Islam teaches carries its reference. If you spot a mistake, please tell us through muslimsaroundtheworld.org.

Muslims Around the World is protecting the legacy of Ali Banat, may Allah have mercy on him, and every site in the family is part of that work. Read his story.

You can learn more with us at Islamic shorts, duas and Quran recitations: short reminders from scholars, duas with their meaning, Quran recitations and prayer times.
